Research information comes from an extensive collection of atlases and sheet maps dating back to the early 1900s. We have many Bible, World War I, World War II, Korean War, Mideast Wars map sources. Many of the war map sources were actually published during the time of the conflicts by OSS, Army map service, CIA, Survey of Israel and other government sources. Being the chief cartographer at TIME magazine for over 20 years made me very aware of many map sources.
A one page map for a trade book can often be done in a couple of days. More complex maps can take a week to ten days to complete.
Prices are based on size, color usage, terrain modeling, and the amount of label copy. Street maps take longer and are therefore more costly.
